Module Overview
Report filters help you focus and display information in ways that make it easier to analyze. You can filter by date ranges, subsidiary context, and dimensions like location or department. This module covers the three main filter types and how to use them effectively.
Date Range Filters
Date filters determine which transactions appear in your report based on when they were created. You can use either static (fixed) or dynamic (rolling) date ranges.
📅 Static Date Ranges
Fixed dates that remain the same as time passes.
- Manually enter From and To dates
- Date field shows "Custom"
- Perfect for historical analysis
- Example: Jan 1 - Mar 31, 2024
🔄 Dynamic Date Ranges
Dates that update automatically as time passes.
- Select from predefined dynamic selectors
- From/To fields populate automatically
- Perfect for ongoing reporting
- Example: "This Fiscal Year to Date"
Setting a Static Date Range
- Locate the From and To date fields on the report
- Manually enter or select specific dates using the calendar picker
- The Date field will show "Custom"
- Click Refresh to apply the filter
📌 NetSuite Remembers
NetSuite stores the date range values you set. The next time you access the same report, it will show information for the date range you previously selected.
Setting a Dynamic Date Range
- Click in the Date filter field
- Use Quick Filters buttons to narrow the list of selectors (Year, Quarter, Month, Week, etc.)
- Choose a dynamic selector from the list
- The From and To fields populate automatically
- Click Refresh to apply the filter

⭐ Create Favorites
Click the star icon next to frequently used date selectors to add them to your Favorites list. Favorites appear at the top of the date selector menu for quick access. Note: Favorites you create are added to the date filter on every report and saved search you have access to.
Subsidiary Context Filter
For OneWorld accounts, the subsidiary context filter controls which subsidiary's data appears in the report and how currency is displayed.
🏢 Consolidated vs. Non-Consolidated
| View Type |
Data Included |
Currency |
| Consolidated |
Selected subsidiary + all child subsidiaries |
Base currency of selected subsidiary |
| Non-Consolidated |
Selected subsidiary only |
Base currency of selected subsidiary |
💡 Example: Consolidated View
Your company has a UK parent with child subsidiaries in France and Germany.
When you select the UK (Consolidated) view:
- Data from UK, France, and Germany subsidiaries is included
- All amounts are translated to British Pound Sterling (GBP)
- Child subsidiary amounts are converted using exchange rates
⚠️ Important
The subsidiaries available in the filter depend on your role and permissions. You may not see all subsidiaries if your access is restricted.
Column Filters (Dimensions)
Column filters create a report matrix by breaking down data by a specific dimension such as location, department, or time period.
📊 How Column Filters Work
By default, the column filter is set to Total, which displays amounts as a single column of aggregated information.
Change the column filter to break out data by:
- Location — Sales totals by warehouse/store
- Department — Expenses by department
- Class — Revenue by product line
- Time Period — Monthly or quarterly breakdown
- Subsidiary — Side-by-side subsidiary comparison
💡 Example: Sales by Location
You want to discover which locations across all subsidiaries handled the most sales for the current fiscal year.
- Open the Sales by Customer report
- Set the Date filter to This Fiscal Year
- Change the Column filter from "Total" to Location
- Click Refresh
- Sales are now broken out by location with a grand total per customer in the rightmost column
- Scroll down to see the grand total per location
Result: You can quickly identify that "US Midwest Warehouse" handled the most sales this fiscal year.
Applying Multiple Filters
🔗 Combining Filters
You can apply multiple filters simultaneously to narrow your report:
- Date Range + Subsidiary — This fiscal year for US operations
- Date Range + Column (Location) — Monthly sales by warehouse
- Subsidiary + Column (Department) — Expenses by department for UK only
Always click Refresh after changing filters to update the report data.
🎯 Key Takeaways
- Static dates are fixed; dynamic dates update automatically over time
- Create date selector favorites for quick access to frequently used ranges
- Consolidated views include child subsidiaries; non-consolidated shows one subsidiary only
- Column filters break down data by dimensions like location, department, or time period
- Always click Refresh after changing filters
- NetSuite remembers your filter settings for the next time you access the report
